What is GlycoMarine™ ?

GlycoMarine™ is our trademarked name for the original clinically proven "green lipped mussel powder"; proven effective in double-blind placebo-controlled studies in the 80's 90's and early 2000's. The green lipped mussel industry has changed significantly since those days.

Raw Green lipped mussels or (Perna Canaliculus) is natural "chondroprotective". It has a complex nutrient profile, including amino-acids, chondroitin, glucosamine and glycogen complex that helps prevent joint deterioration and ease pain and inflammation symptoms associated with joint deterioration. Manufacturing effective "green lipped mussel powder" requires specific conditions to be kept in supply chains and the manufacturing process. If not, the nutrients present in the raw mussels will not be available or active in the processed "green lipped mussel powder".

The vast majority of "green lipped mussel powder" sold today is manufactured according to the original process clinically proven to produce effective green lipped muscle powders. Hence the large discrepancies among findings from clinical studies conducted today with materials known as "green lipped muscle powder". Some companies even use defatted "green lipped muscle powder" stripped of all its vital omega fats. This "green lipped mussel powder" is nothing more than an expensive protein powder sourced from green lipped muscles (Perna Canaliculus).

The fact that anyone can call any powder "green lipped mussel powder" if it's from Perna canaliculus (New Zealand green shelled mussel) is a problem. Nutraceuticals are only effective if the effective nutrients are present and bioactive. All GlycoMarine™ batches are made from fresh live mussels and are tested for bioactivity.

"There is nothing particularly new about the use of substances made from organisms found in the sea, or their use in medication. For centuries, crude extracts of marine plants and animals have been used to treat disease. However, it was not until the 1960s (long after the advent of space exploration) that serious exploration of the marine environment for substances exhibiting pharmacologically active properties was undertaken. As a result of some of this work, the anti-inflammatory properties of GlycoMarine™, a preparation extracted from the New Zealand green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) was discovered. GlycoMarine was introduced to New Zealand's general public in 1974, and, as it has entered new markets around the world, has gained a large and steadily growing following. With a 25+ year track record of clinical research and making people feel better, GlycoMarine is now being introduced in North America.
